2004 New York Lever Voting Machine Incidents: How Kerry’s NY Landslide was Denied

Lever voting machines have given New Yorkers a false sense of security. The 2004 Election Incident Reporting System confirms that Kerry’s winning NY margin was cut drastically by election fraud. There were 19 reported NY 2004 voting machine “stuck” lever incidents. All 19 were “stuck” on Bush in a lever machine equivalent of touch screen vote-flipping. View the detailed incidents below.

Let’s review the diverse evidence that the NY vote (Kerry 58.5-40.2%) was padded for Bush:

1- Unadjusted NY exit poll: Kerry led by a steady 64-35% from the unadjusted exit poll to the adjusted 12:40am Composite.

2- Late NY votes: Kerry’s share of absentee, provisional paper ballots was 7% higher than his Election Day share (same as Gore and Obama).

3- Exit poll discrepancy: Levers had a 10.6% WPE, far exceeding other voting machines and Paper ballots (2%)

4- Prior election returning voters: Gore had a 60-35% NY margin and third-party (Nader/other) voters broke 3-1 for Kerry (see table below).

5- Urban Legend: Bush’s vote share increased sharply from 2000 in the NYC area with no gain in GOP rural, small towns

6- Election Incident Reporting System (EIRS): Many NYC precincts had broken machines; all “stuck” levers were stuck on Bush.

7- NY 2008 Primary: Zero Votes for Obama in 80 districts. The problem was resolved. But did Kerry also have zero votes go unnoticed in 2004?

From the NY Times article on the ZERO NY Primary Votes for Obama:

“The history of New York elections has been punctuated by episodes of confusion, incompetence and even occasional corruption. And election officials and lawyers for both Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton agree that it is not uncommon for mistakes to be made by weary inspectors rushing on election night to transcribe columns of numbers that are delivered first to the police and then to the news media.”

The 12% NY WPE cut Kerry’s vote margin (and increased Bush's) by about 900,000. Kerry also won late paper ballot votes (absentees, provisionals, etc.) by the same 64%. Just a coincidence, Lever bots will surely say. But Past is Prologue. Obama won 71% of NY late votes and just 63% of the recorded vote. Gore won 66% of late votes and 60% officially. Mechanical Levers had the highest average WPE (11%) of all voting machines. Paper ballots had 2%, optical scanners and unverifiable touch-screens 7%. At least there is a paper trail with optical scanners, (see Al Franken in MN).

The NY Lever Voting System (a combination of unverifiable machines and corrupt election officials) has been miscounting votes for over 100 years. It’s time for the Levers to go. The only viable solution is an open-source system with HAND-COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS posted on the Internet and at every precinct. Let everyone verify their own vote as well as the precinct totals. We should not leave it to others to count OUR vote. And we thought Stalin was bad.

Eleanor Roosevelt would not be smiling like she was in that famous photo of her voting on the lever if she knew the truth. Instead, she would be telling FDR: “Franklin, you must do something about those damn lever machines; they are disenfranchising your base”.

One of the machines was STUCK ON THE REPUBLICANS. The other machine was only for voters A-L. They disenfranchised anyone whose name was not through A-L. Did vote in the end because last name starts with B.

Voter reported that SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE LITTLE LEVER FOR THE DEMOCRATIC Presidential candidate's slot at Polling Machine serial number: 91204. She said that lots of voters complained that the lever did not properly click down.

7) 34442 Taylor White Community Center

THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE WASN'T WORKING --- could only vote for president. This is what she was told regarding the ability to vote along party line. She said she will return later to see if fixed.

The line was not moving at all and he did not see whether paper ballots were being passed out to voters. He had to go to work so he left the polling place.

Voting machine: only one machine for the 8th district at the location; THE MACHINE WAS STUCK ON "REPUBLICAN" and voters couldn't vote unless they were Republican. One of the police officers there looked at the machine and tried to "unstick" it, but was not successful. Voter is concerned that the paper ballots will not get counted, or will be lost.

He reported it to head of 73rd district and coordinator of polling place, but not convinced that she ever called it in.In a separate incident--at least 2 people at his polling place got provisional ballots because they were not in the book (although they had cards showing that they should vote in that location).

Everyone NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE on machines. Poll workers asked people to write names down as list on a piece of loose leaf paper. The hall was crowded people going back and forth. Coordinator said they did not have emergency ballots.

Six voting machines at site, one down at 7am long lines. The machine delivered was broken, never worked which was one for bldg. itself. People filled out paper ballots on top of cardboard boxes. Voting was chaotic and no privacy for voters. Organization was lacking and planning was lacking, people confused checking boxes instead of filling them in. Did not voters on how to fill out the paper ballots. There were six machines but one broken was the only machine for that district and people from that district were not allowed to vote on other machines (different districts). Workers seemed unprepared, people left because (1) they felt their vote wasn't going to be counted & (2) they had to go out to work.

She noticed others having problems with machine went in. Machines lever wouldn't move to the right. The little levers got stuck. Asked for help and the worker said she already voted. They argued. He told her to get an election board judge to allow her to vote.

Polls opened in voter's precinct at 6:30 AM. Voter was in line to vote at 7:30 AM. Voter was told by poll workers that the voting machines were BROKEN and that they would not be fixed until 9:00 AM. Polling place only had 100 paper ballots and 2 pens.

ONLY ONE machine of the two allotted for the 58th ED is working. Machine jamming repeatedly; Potential voters were turning away because they could not continue to wait (had to go to work mostly). Were offered a chance to file Emergency paper ballots but they were terribly AFRAID THAT THEIR VOTES WOULD BE DESTROYED.

Machine needed physical movement to register vote. Senior citizen was UNABLE to do this because it required too much strength. She is concerned this will happen to others. She was able to vote eventually when someone helped her.

Machine was DOWN at voting place. Voter was handed a paper ballot. There was no place to fill it out. Once voter filled out her ballot, attendant took it back but voter does not know what happened to her ballot. She knows it was not a secret ballot and is certain it will not be counted.
